Barcelona, between Gaudí and the sea
The capital of Catalonia brings together the medieval Gothic Quarter, the grid of the 19th-century Eixample with Gaudí's modernist houses, the still-unfinished Sagrada Família and miles of city beaches. It is easy to explore on foot and by metro, and mild almost all year round.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Barcelona Airport from the city centre?
About 15 km from Plaça de Catalunya. The Aerobús takes about 35 minutes, the R2 Nord train from Terminal 2 about 25 minutes, and a taxi 25 to 30 minutes without traffic.
What is the easiest way to get to the centre?
For most travellers the Aerobús: it leaves from outside both terminals every few minutes and runs straight to Plaça de Catalunya. The train is cheaper but only leaves from Terminal 2; the L9 Sud metro does not reach the centre and needs a change.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?
It depends on the airline: Vueling, Iberia, ITA Airways and most full-service airlines use Terminal 1; Ryanair, easyJet and other low-cost airlines use Terminal 2. A free shuttle bus links them in about 10 minutes.
What is the airport code of Barcelona?
The IATA code is BCN and the ICAO code is LEBL. The official name is Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
